Abstract

The corpus establishes that the installation of the alpha-nitrogen at C-alpha admits two local approach branches forming a torsor under Z2, that an oriented cage condition excluding one of them is a section-supplying datum, and that the section so obtained is not a name: identifying the selected configuration with the L series requires the substituent ordering together with a convention adopted outside the architecture. This paper does not repair that separation and does not claim to. It works on the near side of it.

The selection is uniform. The side chain begins at C5, a framework carbon, while the stereogenic centre is C-alpha, the first arm carbon; at sixteen of the nineteen chiral structures the retained subgraph meets the reactive subgraph only at its root. At three it does not — two retain the arm-bearing carbon and one closes onto the backbone nitrogen — and those are reached instead if the canonical word installs the nitrogen before the excision, the branch being selected on a substrate that does not yet distinguish the residues. The corpus permits that order and does not force it. Fixing the configuration at one structure fixes it over the domain of uniformity, so the external input falls from nineteen namings to one bit.

Substituent-priority evaluation over the series is finite and is performed and audited here. The descriptor at C-alpha is constant with a single inversion, at the sulfur-bearing structure, and is unchanged by liberation. At the two structures rendering C5 stereogenic the severance record gives two distinct attachment modes, so a reading on which they present the same arrangement is unavailable; one face datum nonetheless fixes both descriptors, at 3S and 3R, the opposite face fixing neither.

Residues made together are treated at the junction cell, whose even vessel count yields two rather than one. Both arise by the same transannular route on their own units, so every statement above applies at each centre unamended, and only the parity of the relation between the carriers bears on the hand. That relation is face inversion with the order of sites kept, which presents the other face of a planar unit and is therefore proper. The pair is homochiral, and under the same anchor both residues are of the L series, their descriptors R and S.

At cluster level the argument becomes a condition on the symmetry group of the assembly: an assembly is homochiral exactly when no operation relating two of its vessels is improper. The carrier's own datum does not settle it. An orientation marker records which of two orientations a unit is in and not how the two are related in space, and no statement about the pattern can see a determinant. That realisation is what remains between the architecture and homochirality over a cluster.
